Suspension control using the sky-hook control algorithm is very effective to improve the ride comfort of a vehicle system. However, the algorithm suffer from the poor damping effectiveness at wheel resonance frequency, which makes the road holding ability of the tire worse. To solve the problem, in this paper, the original sky-hook damping algorithm is modified to have the controllability of wheel resonance. In order to verify the control effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, experiments were performed using a real vehicle system equipped with four stage variable damper operated by electro-magnetic actuator. It is shown that the proposed algorithm can be a good solution for compromising the ride comfort and the road holding ability.<br/>
