As increasing the regulations about environment, removal technologies of global warming gases have been studied by many research groups. N₂O is one of global warming gases and needs to be removed before emission of exhaust gases. In this study, MnO₂/Al₂O₃ and Ru/Al₂O₃ are considered as a catalyst. Based on the experiment, Ru/Al₂O₃ is employed in the tests of plasma assisted catalytic reactor due to higher decomposition rate of N₂O. A rotating arc that is one of gliding arcs is used. From the experiments, we found that the arc plasma removes some of N₂O and the rest is removed by Ru/Al₂O₃ catalyst. As byproducts, small amount of NO₂ that can be removed by a scrubber is measured, but NO is not detected. From this work, the feasibility of the combination of plasma and catalyst is confirmed and further studies are needed to realize this hybrid system in real applications.
