1960년대 제3극장의 뮤지컬 운동 연구 -뮤지컬 《카니발 수첩(手帖)》을 중심으로- = A study on the Musical Movement of the Third Theater group(제3극장) -focusing on 《Carnival Memorandum》 (카니발 수첩)

The purpose of this study is to inquire the performance activity at its earlier stage and to review the musical play (Camival Memorandum) (카니발 수첩) performed by the Third Theater group(제3극장). It is generally known that the beginning of the Korean musical is (Sweet, Come to me Stealthily) (살짜기 옵서예) performed by Yegreen Troupe(예그린 악단). But in 1960s, various musical movement spring up besides (Sweet, Come to me Stealthily). In this thesis, it is aimed to inquire the musical activity of the Third Theater group and to prove out its historical significance particularly. The (Carnival Memorandum)(카니발 수첩, 1966) is the second attempt of the group at the musical play (Shrimp Fishing)(새우잡이) in IS. (Carnival Memorandum), a musical drama of romance at campus festival was presented at the National Theater in Myongdong. The original musical (Carnival Memorandum) is influenced by popular adolescent cinemas of 1960`s. And there are dense that it has the characteristic of the popular theatre for model melodramatic plot. This musical presents us with a possibility for producing musical play. The feature through Korean musical of the Third Theater group research is that Korean musical did not simply imitate a Westm-style but was grown by autogenously development. Yegreen Troupe which was launched by some political motives to counter North Korea`s large sing and dance troupe attempted to accommodate our tradition or classic to American style musicals, on the other side the Third Theater pup attempted to produce a musical with contemporary material. The Third Theater group opened up the musical play by producing (Carnival Memorandum) in Korea. The musical play (Carnival Memorandum) is an works like pioneer in Korean musical history.
