프랑스 파견무관(attaché militaire)이 본 러일전쟁: 제0차 세계대전에서 제1차 세계대전으로 = The russ-japanese war (1904~1905) studied by french military observer: from world war 0 to world war I.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article attempts to examine the french military observer during the russ-japanese war. The development of the regular military attaché system shared similar roots of the plenipotentiary emissaries in 19th century. During the russ-japanese war, the french military attaché, nothing in the Far-Eastern Asia experience required a revision of their manuals. The french observers’ comments were often twisted to support concepts of offensive mobility and firepower which, combined with élan and an aggressive “sprit”, would permit successful strategic envelopments and the decisive battles needed to grantee a shot conflict. Therefore, the military lessons finally learned from their reports were of questionable value in 1914.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

프랑스 파견무관들은 근대적 전쟁을 러일전쟁을 통해 경험하면서도 전쟁의 근대적 성격을 제대로 파악하지 못하였다. 프랑스 본국의 참모부 또한 러일전쟁에 대한 명확한 이해와 전망이 부재하였다. 전쟁발발 직전 전쟁부가 생산한 정보에 바탕을 둔 프랑스 외교부와 전쟁부가 수립한 전쟁결과에 대한 전망은 완전히 빗나갔다. 전쟁을 직접 가까이에서 관찰한 파견무관들이 전쟁에서 나타난 근대적 무기(기관총, 대포)가 변환시킨 전쟁양상을 직접적으로 경험하였다. 하지만 제1차 세계대전 중에 나타났던 원거리 포격으로 전장이 확장되고 전투원과 비전투원의 경계가 희미해지는 총력전과 참호전이 낳은 파멸적 결과를 인지하지 못하고 나폴레옹 시대의 전쟁관에 머물렀다.
