The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of 1st grade experience through a follow-up on the 2 different types of teaching method studied earlier by Lee (1990). The subjects of the present study were 54 elementary school children in grade 5. Data for the study were collected on academic achievement, creativity, socio-emotional development and self-concept. MANOVA was used to analyze group differences. The major findings of the study were as follows : 1. There were no significant differences in academic achievement depending on the types of teaching method. 2. There were significant differences in creativity depending on the types of teaching method ( p<.05 ) : in the domain of originality and abstraction. The open education teaching method was more effective than the other. 3. There were no significant differences in socio-emotional development depending on the types of teaching method. 4. There were no signiticant differences in self-concept depending on the types of teaching method.
