  MY DEAR SIR,--There is a broad and marked distinction between the gentleman who forbears to act in any department, because he is met, whichsoever way he turns himself, by objections to its propriety, and he who is always in search of objections to justify his withholding his aid. The latter never fails to hate him who overturns his objections; the former hears with candour his objections attacked, weighs with patient care every argument, and is open to conviction.
