C. Debussy의 Sonata No. 1 for Cello and Piano에 대한 분석연구 = A STUDY OF C.DEBUSSY'S SONATA NO.1 FOR CELLO AND PIANO

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 Debussy가 1915년에 쓴 단 한 곡의 Cello Sonata에 관한 분석적 연구이다.
Debussy는 모두 10곡의 실내악 작품을 남겼으나 그 중의 중요한 작품으로는 본 논문의 연구 대상인 Cello Sonata를 위시해서 String Quartet, Violin Sonata, Flute, Viola, Harp를 위한 Sonata로 대표된다.
본 Cello Sonata 분석의 이론적 배경을 위해서 Debussy 실내악의 전반적인 특징 즉, 악기 배합, 악장 구성, 형식, 선율적 특징, 음계, 화성, 리듬, 조성, 박자등의 내용을 여러 문헌이나 악보를 통해서 종합해 보았으며, Debussy가 사용한 실내악 주법도 살펴 보았다. Debussy의 Cello Sonata를 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 내용으로 압축할 수 있었다.
전 곡은 자유롭고 축소된 기악곡적 의미의 Sonata로써 Cyclic form을 형성하며 부드럽고 색채적이고도 동양적인 성격을 띄는 선율들은 Aeolian, Dorian, Lydian 등의 선법과 온음 음계, 5음 음계, 반음계, 장·단음계등의 음계를 바탕으로 하였다.
전 곡에 나타나는 다양한 tempo의 변화와 dynamics의 변화는 짧은 곡이지만 이 곡을 알차게 이끌고 있으며 셋잇단음표나, syncopation 리듬, Cello부와 Piano부가 만들어내는 복잡한 리듬과 함께 7화음, 9화음, 11화음, 불완전화음, 증6화음등의 화음 구성은 이 곡을 근대적인 음악으로 만들고 있다.
이 곡은 근대적인 Cello Sonata인만큼 portando, pizzicato, sul tasto, sul ponticello, marcato, staccato등의 주법이 색채적인 음색의 표현을 위해서 효과적으로 사용되었으며 Debussy는 이 Cello Sonata를 통해서, 고전적, 낭만적 전통을 계승하면서도 또한 고전주의적, 낭만주의적 Sonata가 아닌, 자신의 개성적이고도 독창적인 차원 높은 Debussy적인 Sonata를 보여 준다.

This thesis is an analytic study on Debussy's only Cello Sonata, composed in 1915.
Debussy composed ten pieces of chamber music, and those precious work are a String Quartet, a Violin Sonata, a Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, and the Cello Sonata which is the object of this study.
First to understand the theorectical background of this study, the general characteristic of Debussy's chamber music instrumental combination, movement style, form, melodic feature, scale, harmony, rhythm, tonality and time are summarized from various articles and works. Debussy's own techniques in chamber music are also reviewed.
From this analysis the writer summarizes as follows.
This work is a free and compact instrumental sonata, which forms a cyclic formation.
The soft, colorful melody in oriental mood is based on Aeolian, Dorian and Lydian modes and employs the wholetone scale, the pentatonic scale, the chromatic scale, and major and minor scales.
Though this work is short, variation in tempo and dynamics shown through the whole work makes it rich in content.
The complicated rhythm in the Cello and Piano parts, the triplet figure and the syncopated rhythm along with seventh chords, ninth chords, eleventh chords, imperfect chords and augmented sixth chords make this a modernistic work.
Various techniques, characterizing the modernistic Cello Sonata - portando, pizzicato, sul tasto, sul ponticello, marcato, staccato - are used effectively to express the colorful tone.
Although Debussy inherits both the classical and romantic tradition, without imitating either, this creative and superior sonata is peculiarly Debussy.
