목회서신 안의 경건과 불경건의 개념 = The Concept of Piety and Impiety in the Pastoral Epistles

국문 초록 (Abstract)

신약성서에서 기독교의 "영성"(spirituality)과 가장 가까운 용어는 "경건"(ευσεβεια)이란 용어이다. 우리는 이 용어가 신약 중에서 가장 빈번하게 나타나는 목회서신을 살펴보았다. 거기서 그 용어는 "불경건(ασεβεια)"이란 용어와 대조되어 나타나는데, 신학적 측면에서 아주 의미가 있다. 즉, 그 용어들은 구원론과 긴밀히 연결되어 있다는 점이다. 우리는 이 "경건" 용어의 자세한 의미를 밝히기 위해, 용어의 기원, 그 공동체의 상황(Sitz im Leben), 목회서신안의 경건과 불경건의 용어를 조사하였다. 특히 주된 질문은, 목회서신의 경건의 의미는 헬라적, 구약적 경건/불경건의 의미와 어떻게 다른가? 이다. 결국, 목회서신의 경건/불경건 용어가 함축하는 바는 이방세계도 이방신들이나 이웃에 대한 그러한 사상이 있지만, 근본적으로 불경건한 백성들이라는 것과 하나님은 이스라엘에 대한 참된 경건심이 흘러 넘치는 공동체를 세우려 했지만, 그들의 신적 지식과 삶은 불경건으로 흘렀다는 것, 그리고 새 공동체는 그리스도의 삶과 죽음에 기초한 새로운 이해와 삶의 태도를 갖추도록 설립되었다는 것으로 드러난다. 목회서신의 용법의 핵심은, 그리스도가 구원자라는 것이고, 그것은 온갖 불법에서 벗어나 모든 선한 일에 열심하는 친 백성을 만들기 위해서라는 것이다. 과거에, 경건에 불려 졌던 이스라엘이 이방세계의 불경건을 답습함으로 파멸하였다면, 새 메시아의 공동체는 같은 전철을 반복해서는 안 된다는 것이다. 그러므로, 목회서신의 용법이 말하고자 하는 바는, 경건한 삶은 구원을 보장하지만, 불경건한 삶은 그것을 보장하기 어렵다는 것에 관한 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In the New Testament, the closest terminology to Christian "spirituality" is the term "piety"(ευσεβεια). This terminology appears most frequently in the pastoral letters, where the word is contrasted with the word "impiety"(ασεβεια). In the theological point of view, such a contrast is significant for the word is closely connected with soteriology. In order to explain the use of the terms, we investigated the origin of the word, the Sitz im Leben of the community, and the contrast between the concept of piety and impiety in the pastoral epistles. The primary question is: how the concept of piety in the pastoral epistles is different from that of the Hellenistic and Jewish concept? After all, in the pastoral letters, the notion of piety seems to imply that although the pagan world had a concept of reverence to their deities and neighbors they were fundamentally ungodly people, and God intended to establish a true pious community. But for many years, the ungodly thought and acts against God prevailed among the people of Israel, and finally Jesus founded his new eschatological community in order to grant them a new understanding of reverence and an attitude of life according the life and death of Jesus Christ. The central concept of piety in the pastoral epistles is that Jesus is the only Savior, and he wanted his people to avoid impiety, and maintain a good life. That is, if Israel was destroyed because they followed the example of the secular world, and then the messianic community must not repeat the same mistake. So the pastoral epistles are saying that a pious life secures a place in Heaven, but an impious life does not.
