기독교교육적 관점에서 본 애니 베어드의 삶과 사상 = Annie Baird's life and thoughts from a Christian education perspective

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 미 북장로교 소속 교육선교사로 사역했던 윌리엄 베어드(William Martyne Baird)의 아내로, 1891년 내한하여 1916년 하늘의 부름을 받을 때까지 평양을 중심으로 사역했던 개척선교사 애니 베어드(Annie Laurie Adams Baird)를 기독교 교육적 관점에서 그의 생애와 사역, 교육사상을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 애니 베어드는 26년 동안 한국선교의 현장 최일선에서 교사로, 교육행정가로, 강의교재 번역가로, 교재집필가로 적극적으로 참여하여 기독교적 인재를 양성하고 나아가 후대를 위한 유의미한 업적을 다수 남긴 한국 기독교교육의 프런티어 였다.
그럼에도 그에 대한 기독교교육학적 접근과 연구, 평가는 매우 미진한 것이 현실이다.(기독교교육 분야에서 그녀에 대한 학위, 연구 논문이 단 한 편도 없다) 필자는 이러한 문제의식을 가지고 애니 베어드를 기독교교육의 안목에서 고찰하는 첫 시도로 이 연구를 수행했다. 이를 위해서 먼저, 애니 베어드에 대한 그 동안의 연구 추이를 정리해 보았다. 그리고 이어서 그가 기독교교육자로 형성되어 가는 과정과 기독교교육자로서 그가 선교 현장에서 펼쳤던 기독교교육 사역들을 살펴보았다. 그리고 그 과정에서 일관성 있게 흐르는 그의 기독교교육 사상으로 세 가지 중심사상을 상정해 보았다. 결론적으로 기독교교육자 애니 베어드는 복음을 중심으로 변혁을 도모하는 복음 중심주의, 한국의 선교사로서 성육신적 자세와 태도로 토착지 한국과 토착어 한국어와 토착민 한국인을 끝까지 사랑한 토착 중심주의, 그리고 여성으로서 한국의 현실에서 가장 긴급하고 필요한 사역으로서 여성교육을 인식하고 이를 위해서 여성을 일깨운 여성 중심주의로 정리해 보았다. 이 연구가 애니 베어드에 대한 연구와 창조적 계승의 마중물이 되기를 바란다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is about Annie Laurie Adams, the wife of William Martyne Baird, who served as an educational missionary for the Northern Presbyterian Church in the United States, and a pioneer missionary who came to Korea in 1891 and worked mainly in Pyongyang until receiving heaven's call in 1916. The purpose of this study is to examine Baird's life, ministry, and educational ideas from a Christian educational perspective. For 26 years, Annie Baird has actively participated in the forefront of Korean missions as a teacher, educational administrator, lecture material translator, and textbook writer, nurturing Christian talent and leaving behind many meaningful achievements for future generations. It was Frontier.
Nevertheless, the reality is that the Christian pedagogical approach, research, and evaluation of her are very insufficient. (There is not a single degree or research paper about her in the field of Christian education.) With this awareness of the problem, the author considers Annie Baird as an insight into Christian education. This study was conducted as the first attempt to consider. To this end, we first summarized the trends in research on Annie Baird. Next, we looked at the process of his formation as a Christian educator and the Christian education work he carried out in the missionary field as a Christian educator. And in the process, I assumed three central ideas as his Christian education ideas that flow consistently. In conclusion, Christian educator Annie Baird believes in gospel-centrism, which seeks transformation centered on the gospel; indigenous-centrism, which loves the native land of Korea, the native language, and the native Koreans to the end with an incarnational attitude and attitude as a missionary to Korea; and the native-centrism of Korea as a woman. We recognized women's education as the most urgent and necessary ministry in reality, and organized it into a feminism that awakens women to this end.
I hope that this study will serve as a catalyst for research and creative succession of Annie Baird.
