Take advantage of the analysis and the contents of the book social curriculum-related research
- Elementary school 5th grade –

The purpose of this study is to offer the preliminary data to make use of social learning in the elementary school. The data show contents of Social Studies' Curriculum system and trends of categorized contents organization. As the study, moreover, shows the connectivity between children history books and course work, it tells that Social Content Area Reading is concerned with learning.

For this reason, there were three theses like that.

First, how is the distribution of social contents system of children books related to social study in the fifth grader of elementary school?

Second, how is the classification according to contents organization of children books related to social study in the fifth grader of elementary school?
Third, the elementary school 5th grade social studies related children's books with elements of the curriculum and take advantage of what plans?

This study is based on children history books chosen by three elementary schools, The National Library for Children & Young Adults, and Morning Reading (2011).
The selection criteria are referenced from the criteria of Social Learning (History) books written by Kyung-hee Lee (2007). The contents analyses on social study in the fifth grader of elementary school were reached by Korean curriculum revised in 2007.
It is analyzed by two categories; social contents system and organization in the fifth grader of elementary school, and makes out frequency and percentage. It also introduces examples of the good use of the connectivity between children history books and coursework.

The followings are the results from this study.

First, following the distribution of social contents system of children books related to social study in the fifth grader of elementary school on the list are ‘United people’, ‘Confucianism in Chosun’, ‘New movement in the society of Chosun’, ‘Many cultures in Korea’, ‘The Development of Korea and Today’, and ’The Acceptance of foreign cultures and the racial movement’. As the list shows that ‘Development of Korea and Today’, and ’The Acceptance of foreign cultures and the racial movement’ are the lowest position. It means that there are a few children history books about modern history of Korea.

Second, following classification according to contents organization of children books related to social study in the fifth grader of elementary school on the list are 'History of person', 'History of times', 'History of culture', and ‘History of Everyday Life'. While there are many books about ‘History of times', the books like ‘History of Everyday Life’ are a few. In other words, it needs more books related ‘History of Everyday Life’.

The classification according to contents organization shows the forms of narrative storybook and Description format educational books are more than the other forms of picture books, dictionary, and comic books.

Third, children's history books relevant to the content and curriculum elementary school 5th grade social help in learning the curriculum you're linking Take advantage of this referral element and in the curriculum learning and sensitivities.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

논 문 개 요

본 연구는 초등학교 5학년 사회과와 관련된 아동 역사도서에 나타난 사회과 교육과정의 내용체계와 내용 조직에 따른 범주의 경향을 파악하여 구체적 목록을 정리함으로써 궁극적으로 초등학교 사회과 학습에 활용할 기초 자료를 제공하는 데 목적이 있다. 또한 아동 역사도서의 교과학습과의 연계성 요소와 활용방안을 제시하고자 하였다.
이와 같은 목적으로 다음과 같은 연구 문제를 설정하였다.

첫째, 초등학교 5학년 사회교과와 관련된 아동도서의 사회과 내용체계별 분포는 어떠한가?
둘째, 초등학교 5학년 사회교과와 관련된 아동도서의 내용 조직에 따른 분류와 구성은 어떠한가?
셋째, 초등학교 5학년 사회교과와 관련된 아동도서의 교과 연계성 요소와 활용방안은 어떠한가?

본 연구의 분석대상 아동 역사도서는 3개 초등학교의 권장도서, 국립어린이청소년도서관 책꾸러미, 2011년도 아침독서 권장도서를 대상으로 하였다. 이경희(2007)의 사회 학습(역사)도서 선정 기준을 참고하여 아동 역사도서 선정기준을 마련하였고, 그에 따라 158권의 아동 역사도서를 선정하였다. 초등학교 5학년 사회과와 관련된 아동 역사도서의 내용 분석은 우리나라 2007년도 개정 교육과정을 사용하였다. 초등학교 5학년 사회과 내용 체계와 내용 조직에 따라 범주를 나눠 분석하였으며, 그 빈도와 백분율을 작성하였다. 또한, 교과 내용과 아동 역사도서의 연계성 요소에 따른 활용 방안을 제시하였다.
본 연구를 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 초등학교 5학년 사회과 관련 아동 역사도서의 내용 체계별 분포는 ‘하나 된 겨레’, ‘유교 전통이 자리 잡은 조선’, ‘조선사회의 새로운 움직임’, ‘다양한 문화가 발전한 고려’, ‘대한민국의 발전과 오늘의 우리’, ‘새로운 문물의 수용과 민족 운동’ 순으로 나타났다. ‘새로운 문물의 수용과 민족 운동’, ‘대한민국의 발전과 오늘의 우리’의 도서는 저조하여 우리나라 근현대를 대상으로 하는 아동 역사도서가 적음을 알 수 있었다.
둘째, 초등학교 5학년 사회과 교과내용 조직에 따른 아동 역사도서의 분포를 살펴보면 ‘시대사’, ‘인물사’, ‘문화사’, ‘생활사’ 순으로 나타났다. ‘시대사’를 다룬 아동 역사도서는 많은 반면, ‘생활사’를 다룬 아동 역사도서는 적은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 내용 조직이 내러티브 형식의 이야기책과 설명 형식의 학습도서가 많은 것으로 나타나 역사 대상 도서는 그림책, 사전, 만화 형식이 저조한 것을 알 수 있다.
셋째, 아동 역사도서는 초등학교 5학년 사회 교과 내용과 연계성이 있어 교과학습에 도움이 된다. 이에 교과학습과 연계한 요소와 그 활용방안을 제시하였다.
초등학교 5학년 사회 교과와 연계성이 있는 도서를 선정하여 아동 학습자에게 제공하였을 경우 역사에 대한 배경지식을 쌓을 수 있으며, 역사에 대한 흥미를 높여주어 교과학습에 도움을 줄 수 있다.
