The efficiency of β-carotene(β-Ca) as a modulatory agent against clastogenecity induced by adriamycin(ADM) was evaluated in cultured human peripheral lymphocytes. Three doses of β-Ca, 2.0, 4.0, or 6.0 ㎍/㎖, were tested simultaneous treatment with ADM. The data obtained show a statistically significant decrease in the frequency of chromosomal aberration induced by ADM when the cells were treated with β-Ca. These results suggest that β-Ca has a protective action on ADM-induced chromosomal aberrations.
