마삼락(馬三樂, Samuel Hugh Moffett)의 생애와 선교신학 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 마삼락(馬三樂, Samuel Hugh Moffett, 1916-2015)의 생애와 선교신학을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 마삼락은 선교사, 목사, 교육가, 역사가, 설교자, 행정가, 저술가, 민간외교관, 종교기자, 특파 원과 같은 다양한 역할을 수행하였다. 마삼락은 한국 교회의 개척자 마포삼열(Samuel A. Moffett)의 셋째 아들이며 마포화열(Howard F. Moffett)의 형이다. 그의 생애는 30년 어간으로 1기(1916~1945), 2기(1945~1981), 3기(1981~2015)로 나눌 수 있다. 마삼락의 선교 신학은 복음전도, 교회연합, 사회참여라는 삼요소가 상호융합을 추구 하는 복음주의적 에큐메니즘의 통전적 성격을 지니면서 우선주의와 축소주의를 비판한다. 마삼락은 1966년 베를린대회와 1974년 로잔대 회에 참여한 복음주의자이면서 교회연합운동을 지지하며 에큐메니스 트 역할을 하였고, 마삼락은 복음전도와 사회참여를 동등한 협력자로 여기면서 교회분열과 교회의 자기봉쇄를 죄로 규정하면서 교회의 연합 과 선교를 주창하였다. 마삼락은 복음전도를 강조하여 예수 그리스도께 순종하는 영성을 실천하면서도, 신학교육을 통하여 한국교회가 세계교 회와 동반 협력하도록 공헌하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims at examining the life and mission theology of Samuel Hugh Moffett (1916~2015). He played a variety of roles such as a missionary, a pastor, an educator, a historian, a preacher, an administrator, a writer, a civilian diplomat, and a correspondent. He was the third son of Samuel A. Moffett who was a pioneer of the Korean church, and one of the brothers of Howard F. Moffett. He criticized prioritism and reductionism from the perspective of his mission theology, which was characterized as Evangelical Ecumenism. His mission theology as Evangelical Ecumenism was composed of Evangelism, Ecumenism, and Social Engagement. He was not only an evangelical missionary who participated in the Berlin Congress in 1966 and the Lausanne Conference in 1974, but also an ecumenical theologian who supported the church unity. Both evangelism and social engagement were considered as the equal partners within the framework of his mission theology. He advocated the unity of church as well as the mission of church. On the other hand, he criticized schism and self-containment of the church as a critical sin. Based on the biblical meaning of the gospel, he contributed to the church of Korea’s cooperation with the Church around the world for world mission through a theological education and a spirituality of obedience.
