의료기관 종사자에서 콘택트렌즈 사용실태 및 인식 설문 조사 = Investigation of Contact Lens Use and Perception among Hospital Workers: A Survey on Contact Lens Use, Knowledge and Attitude among Hospital Workers

Purpose: To investigate the patterns of contact lens (CL) use and knowledge and attitude regarding the CL use among worker at a Kangwon National University Hospital.
Methods: QA survey regarding the use of CL and CL-related knowledge and attitude were distributed over 2 month period starting in March, 2021 to Kangwon National University Hospital workers who had experience of CL use. The survey included questions regarding age, gender, occupation, type of CL, reason for wearing, period of use, purchase route, CL wearing pattern, complications, causative factors, and regular eye examination. The answer to each question was collected and analyzed.
Results: One hundred and twelve participants completed the survey. The mean age was 30.1±5.8 years and the male-to-female ratio was 1:2.6. Soft and cosmetic CLs comprised the majority (95.5%, 107/112). Most respondents (99.1%, 111/112) purchased their CL from an optical store or through internet without prescription. Only 71.4% (80/112) washed their hands when wearing and removing lenses. In many cases, respondents had incorrect knowledge about method of CL and lens case cleaning. Most respondents 99.1% (111/112) experienced complications like foreign body sensation, dry-eye, hyperemia, blurred vision, tearing, of which only 8.0% (9/112) received regular eye examinations.
Conclusions: The study finding showed even hospital workers may have incorrect knowledge regarding use of CL. Although most CL user experienced complications regarding CL, only a small proportion of CL users are receiving regular eye examination. Education of CL users regarding the CL care and importance of regular eye examinations are therefore warranted.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

목적: 병원 종사자의 콘택트렌즈 사용 및 관리에 대한 의식과 콘택트렌즈 합병증에 대해 조사하고자 한다.
대상과 방법: 강원대학교병원 종사 중 콘택트렌즈 착용 경험이 있는 사람을 대상으로 나이, 성별, 직업, 콘택트렌즈 종류, 사용 이유, 착용 기간, 구매 경로, 콘택트렌즈를 착용하며 경험한 합병증, 안과정기검진 여부 등에 관한 질문이 포함된 설문지를 배포하였다.
결과: 2021년 3월부터 2달간 설문지 배포 후 수거된 설문지 중 112개를 분석하였다. 응답자의 평균 연령은 30.1세였으며, 응답자의 남녀 성비는 남:여 1:2.6이었다. 응답자의 95.5% (107/112)는 소프트 콘택트렌즈와 칼라 콘택트렌즈를 사용하였다. 대부분의 응답자(99.1%, 111/112)는 콘택트렌즈를 안경점 또는 인터넷을 통해 구입하였다. 대부분의 응답자는 콘택트렌즈 세척 및 관리방법을 부정확하게 알고있으며, 71.4% (80/112)의 응답자만 콘택트렌즈 착용 전후 손위생을 시행하였다. 콘택트렌즈 사용 중 99.1% (111/112)의 응답자는 이물감, 안구건조, 충혈, 시야 흐림, 눈물 등 콘택트렌즈로 인한 합병증을 경험하였으나 정기적 안과검진을 받는 응답자는 8.0% (9/112)에 불과했다.
결론: 설문조사 결과 콘택트렌즈 착용자는 콘택트렌즈 사용 및 관리 방법에 대해 잘못된 정보를 가진 경우가 많았으며, 대부분 콘택트렌즈로 인한 합병증을 경험하였으나 그중 일부만 안과 정기검진을 받았다. 콘택트렌즈 사용 및 관리에 관련한 교육과 안과정기검진의 중요성에 대한 홍보 및 교육이 필요하다.
