There has been some controversy about the effect of the woohwang chungsimwon, a traditional herb remedy for cerebral stroke or neurosis, on the systemic hypertension. The antihypertensive effect and symptomatic improvement of CSM-solution, a new product of Chosunmuyack Pharm, were evaluated in 31 patients with essential hypertension in double blind cross over manner.
Headache (84％ vs placebo 52％), dizziness (84％ vs placebo 32％), tinnitus (89％ vs placebo 45％), palpitation (100％ vs placebo 52％), numbness of extrimities(95％ vs placebo 33％) and reduction effect of blood pressure (45％ vs placebo 13％) improved more during the drug administration.
These findings suggest that CSM-solution can be used for symptomatic relief or as an adjuvant of other antihypertensive agents in the treatment of essential hypertension.
