『벌레 이야기』의 구원과 인간 한계성 고찰 = A Study on the Salvation and Human Limitations in The Story of the Worm

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 비극적인 현실에 직면한 인간의 인간 구원에 대한 수용 태도와 용서의 문제에 대한 권리와 주체성 인식에 대한 논의를 고찰해보고자 하는 것이다. 이청준의 작품인 『벌레 이야기』는 용서와 구원의 가능성에 대한 문제를 다루고 있다. 기본적으로 인간은 나약한 존재로서 신의 섭리 속에서 구원의 가능성을 지닌다고 할 수 있다. 그러나 여주인공은 구원 가능성을 포기한 채 인간관계 속에서 용서의 가치를 재현하고 있다. 『벌레 이야기』는 인간의 한계성을 지닌 등장인물들을 다양한 시각에서 제시하고 있다. 이 작품에서 절대적 종교의 신앙 체계를 신봉하는 인물은 인간적 배려와 공감 부족의 한계성을 드러낸다. 비극적 사건의 가해자는 자기반성의 부재 속에서 신으로부터의 용서를 제시하면서 진정성의 한계를 드러내고 있다. 비극적 사건의 피해자인인물은 종교적 신앙의 믿음 체계를 인간의 욕망과 인간관계 속에서 수용하고자 하는한계를 지닌다고 할 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the debate on humans’ acceptance of human salvation in the face of tragic reality and their recognition of rights and subjectivity regarding the issue of forgiveness. Chung-jun Lee’s work, The Story of the Worm deals with issues of forgiveness and the possibility of salvation. Basically, humans are weak beings and have the possibility of salvation in God's providence. However, the female protagonist reproduces the value of forgiveness in human relationships, giving up the possibility of salvation. In this work, a character who believes in an absolute religious belief system reveals the limitations of a lack of human consideration and empathy. The perpetrator of a tragic incident reveals the limits of sincerity by offering forgiveness from God in the absence of self-reflection. It can be said that a character who is a victim of a tragic incident has limitations in trying to accept the belief system of religious faith within human desires and human relationships.
