IT seems at first sight strange that the present generation, musically superior to its predecessors, should be le s so where vocal music alone is concerned. This fact, however, is, on reflection, explained by another-namely, the frequency and pertinacity with which singing is attempted by amateurs, and especially by women, regardless of vocal capacity. Our elders tell us that, in their day, one did not usually sing unless one had a voice.
