The purpose of this study was to analyze longitudinally juveniles' growth and development pattern of height and weight and the occurrence frequency of their obesity using their school health records. The subjects of this study were 8701 male and female high school students in Eae-jon
The result of longitudinal survey, from the age of 6 to 17, of their growth tendency and occurrence frequency of obesity by sexes and ages are following like these.
1. The growth pattern of height
Male students height increased remarkably when they were from 12 to 13 years old.
Females' height did when they were 10 to 11 years old.
Both males and females's growth patterns were form. As for males, they grew up
continuously till 17 years old, and as for females, after 14 years, their pattern showed a tendency to be horizontal.
2. The growth pattern of weight
Male students' weight increased remarkably when they were from 12 to 13 years old.
Female's weight did whin they were from 11 to 12 years old.
The growth pattern of weight, like the one of height, showed that male students's growth was faster than female.
3. The occurrence frequency of obesity
Male students' occurrence frequency of obesity was high when they were 6 years old, and female students' was high when they were 15 this result showed that the lack of exercise was the reason why both males and females' occurrence frequency of obesity was higher in their adolescence than in their childhood.
4. The pursuit of growth and development of high and weight
The height increased remarkably when they were 15, 16 and 17 years old, and the
weight did when they were from 6 to 17 years old. But early obesity wasn't important to the pattern of growth and development.
The results above showed that the conditions of godily development were good and as they grew up, the occurrences frequency of obesity became higher and they kept obese.
Considering these results, we must try to guide the students at school and at home connectedly to help them to keep their weight fittingly in their a do lescence when they grow up fully.
