성인들의 약물사용에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대한 연구 : 사회학습이론, 자기통제이론, 일반긴장이론의 경합 = Empirical Factors of Drug Use among Korean Adults : An Application of Social Learning, Self-Control, and General Strain Theories

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Substance abuse refers to using medical substances in an illegal way as well as taking illegal drugs or other harmful substances. This substance abuse has often been called as ‘victimless crime’, and its seriousness has generally tended to be underestimated. Little literature exists regarding factors of substance abuse especially among adults. The main objective of this study is to figure out factors of adults’ substance abuse based on three major theories, social learning theory, self-control theory, and general strain theory. We also intended theoretical competition to see which theory explains the factors of adults’ substance abuse better. Based on the data gathered by the Korean Institute of Criminology, logistic regression analysis was used for the effects of theoretical factors on substance abuse.
Results revealed that social learning theory explained the substance abuse the best among the three theories applied in this study. Interestingly, however, differential association factor was the only variable significantly related to substance abuse among the social learning theory based variables. Moreover, people who were in low self control and high strained condition were more likely to be involved in substance abuse. We also found gender differences in factors of substance abuse. Differential association, low self control, age, and criminal record were significantly related to men’s substance abuse, whereas only differential association had a significant effect on women’s substance abuse. Implications for policy and future research were discussed based on the findings.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

약물범죄는 마약류를 사용하는 행위에 더불어 유해물질흡입 및 일반의약품을 오남용하는 행위를 의미하며, 흔히 ‘피해자 없는 범죄’로서 그 심각성이 간과되는 경향이 있으며, 살인, 폭력, 성범죄 등의 전통적 범죄에 비해 상대적으로 그 원인과 대책에 대한 선행연구가 부족한 실정이다. 본연구에서는 사회학습이론, 자기통제이론, 일반긴장이론의 견지에서 성인의 약물 사용에 영향을 미치는 요인을 알아보고, 세 이론을 경합하여 성인의 약물 사용에 대한 설명력이 가장 높은 이론을중심으로 효과적인 약물 범죄 예방 정책의 방향성을 제시하고자 한다. 한국형사정책연구원의 약물사용실태 및 의식에 관한 연구 자료를 활용하여, 이론적 측정요인을 독립변수로 하고 의료목적 이외의 약물오남용 여부를 종속변수로 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다.
연구결과, 세 가지 이론들 중 사회학습이론이 한국 성인 약물사용에 대하여 가장 큰 설명력을가졌으며 그 중에서도 차별교제 변수가 통계적으로 유의미한 영향력을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 자기통제력이 낮을수록, 일상에서 긴장을 유발할 수 있는 상황에 처할수록 약물을 사용할 가능성이 높아짐을 알 수 있었다. 성별에 따른 독립변수들의 종속변수에 대한 영향력을 살펴본 결과, 남성의 경우 차별교제, 낮은 자기통제력, 연령, 약물전과가 약물사용여부에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 주었고 여성의 경우 차별교제만이 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 정책적 함의 및 후속연구에 대해 시사점을 논하였다.
