I would suggest that I explain the modernization formation of architecture design illustration (ADI hereafter) through the cultural and historical contexts in the traditional thoughts background in ancient China and the relation to its adaptation in the modern Chinese architectural thoughtful elements and formations. I would choose two study approaches as follows: first, I would explain the generalized design theories and the hypothesis adaptable to the ancient Chinese design style or pattern theories, which has represented simplicity and material characters, and second, I would use authentic architectural theories available to the Chinese architectural theories which has used cultural analytic approach and historical approach in turn. The scope would spread from Xianqin(pre Qin) to contemporary period.
For ADI, I would suggest that Confucianism and Daoism, the two mainstream thoughts, be the ancient Chinese design background in the cultural contexts. Confucianism design thought has illuminated benevolence and rituals about emotional expression method to the pleasure and harmony spirit in the human-centered design thought. Daoism has exaggerated the context of nature at its best. The total characteristics would be as follows: the cooperation of inner-outer space, minimalized universe, the coexistence of formal and multi0formal, artificial and natural separation and two measures of inner space which has articulated mixture and non-transformer.
It would be the main tendencies nowadays that contemporary Chinese architectural design thoughts had been adhered to the foundations of ancient traditional design thoughts elements and formations as the modern ADI. These tendencies had included the concepts and events as follows: wooden structures dougong, plain presentations in wealth-nation and people-centered concepts, Daoist nature-harmony and simplicity, inner meanings of aesthetic design, and the entire harmony between European castles and the garden of China.
In conclusion, I would suggest the three points that first, the co-existence between thoughts and formations of ancient ADI and their western legacies. Second, it would be the mainstream that modernized adaptation and aesthetic life has connected and worked together with ancient ADI toward contemporary ADI in the reformation and open period. And third, contemporary development and modernization of tradition of ADI has had the tendencies to understand choose and use the Chinese aesthetics reality or the most important characteristics in ADI throughout the whole China historical periods.
