The adolescents, who do not have the diverse opportunities and facilities for their leisure activity, seems to enjoy watching 1'V as the prime leisure activity. This study attempts to survey the meaningfulness that the adolescents put on their watching TV' as a desirable leisure activity and analyze problems that they feel in their general leisure activity including watching TV.
For the survey, questionnaire was distributed to 398 subjects of four high schools in Kyong-Ju city. The questionnaire data have statistically processed through the frequency analysis and the crosstabs analysis. The findings are as follows:
First, the adolescents spend in watching TV at average 18%(weekdays) or 21%(weekend) of their free time at home. They, However, feel that there are not many worth watching programs on TV these days and even regret their watching behavior itself for wasting time. The main incentive to watch TV is to entertain themselves and refresh the mind.
Second, the adolescents show the strong preferences the entertainment programs such as films and variety shoes to the self-educationally valuable programs such as news, documentaries and the reviews on current issues.
Third, the adolescent: generally share the strong dissatisfaction with their own leisure activity while their understanding of the concept of leisure is very of high order. It is found that the trip and sports are the most favored leisure activities of the adolescents while watching TV' is the Least favored one.
On the basis of these findings, the followings are suggested to provide the desirable direction of adolesecnts' leisure activity.
First, active commitment of TV production people is required in producing high quality educational and informational programs. At the same time, they need to reflect current interests and needs of adolescents.
Second, TV program for the adolescents on weekends should be more valuable and educative than before.
Third, for the young, there should be the chance to receive the leisure education as a part of the formal curriculum in high school. This is to teach them the significans of leisure in their lives and necessary knowledge and skill to enjoy good feisure activities.
