로마철자 및 영문표기 실태 연구 : 부산지역을 중심으로 = The review of Romanization of Korean in Pusan Guideposts

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this paper is to review the present mispelled presentations of many kinds of road guideposts or signboards for foreigners in Pusan. Recently there were many international events, for example, the Ist Pusan International Film Festival, and East Asian Games in Pusan. Also In 2002, Asian Games and World Cup will take place in Pusan. On those occasions many foreigners will come to Pusan in order to participate and to enjoy the events. For those foreigners we must check the road guideposts and signboards on roads, the airport, the express bus terminal, subway stations and resort places.
In research of this paper, 50 percent of about 1700 road guide signs were mispelled. Especially there are too many mispelled guideboards in the main streets. Many of them didn't follow the law of the Romanization of the Korean alphabet. Some of them had incorrect English words. In Resort places of T'aejongdae park and Pomosa(temple)guideposts were written in incorrect English, so we must correct the mispelled sentences.
