A new malting barley variety, Hojin was developed from the cross between Milyang 69 and Misatogolden whichhave good quality and Barley Yellow Mosaic Virus(BaYMV) resistance, respectively, by barley breeding team of the Yeongnamignated as Milyang 117 It was prominent and had good result from regional yield trials(RYT) for three years from 2002 to 2004and released as the name of Hojin. Hojin is resistant to BaYMV and tolerant to lodging in spite of longer culm than check vari-square meter and weight of 1,000 grain in Hojin were more and heavier than in Jinyang. However, number of grain per spike wasthe same in both varieties. The grain and malt quality of Hojin, such as germination energy, germination capacity, water sensitivityojinwas 5.09 MT/ha on field and 4.72 MT/ha on paddy field in RYT. This variety is suitable for double cropping system with rice inthe southern part of the Korean Peninsula.
