진로 구성 상담에 참여한 성인 내담자의 변화 과정 = A Qualitative Study on the Changing Process of Adult Clients in Career Construction Counseling

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to identify the changing process of adult clients who participated in the career construction counseling of Savickas(2011) and to present a substantive theory. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted for seven participants in career construction counseling and analyzed using the ground theory method. As a result, 169 concepts, 56 subcategories, and 22 categories were derived from the open coding process. As a result of the axis coding, the central phenomenon experienced by adult clients participating in career construction counseling was ‘desperation for solving career problems’. The causal conditions that affected the phenomenon were ‘confusion of one's career’, ‘ambivalent feeling about career counseling’, and ‘awareness of importance of career design’. The contextual conditions were ‘interest in self-growth’ and ‘attitude of acquaintances’. The intervening conditions were ‘facilitation and assistance for story construction’, ‘dynamics in storytelling’, and ‘support of counselors’. The action/interaction strategies that adult clients use to solve the ‘desperation for career problem solving’ in the course of career construction counseling were ‘dubiousness’, ‘being at a loss’, ‘novelty’, ‘proudness’, ‘struggling to write’, ‘breaking through difficulties’, ‘establishing a new career execution plan’, ‘activating senses-making’, ‘increasing of reflection and reflexivity’. Also, as a result of the action/interaction strategies, ‘being expanded of self-understanding ’, ‘increased of self–esteem’, ‘clarity of career goal’ and ‘inclining to live life based on life portraits’ were derived. This process can be summarized in five stages: ‘ignition phase’, ‘shaping phase’, ‘specification phase’, ‘behavioralization phase’, and ‘expansion phase’. The core category of how adult clients who participated in career construction counseling were going through was ‘regeneration as the protagonist of life through story construction’. Based on the results, the process of career construction counseling was discussed and follow-up study was suggested. Through this study, the changing process experienced by adult clients in career construction counseling was concretely identified, and the results of the study are meaningful in that they provided concrete information for more effective interventions and prescriptions in the field of career construction counseling.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 Savickas(2011)의 진로 구성 상담에 참여한 성인 내담자들의 변화 과정을 파악하여 실체 이론을 제시하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 진로 구성 상담 참여자 7명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하고 근거이론방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 개방코딩 과정에서 169개 개념, 56개 하위범주, 22개의 범주가 도출되었다. 축코딩 결과 진로구성 상담에 참여한 성인 내담자들이 경험하는 중심현상은 ‘진로 문제 해결에 대한 절실함’으로 나타났다. 이에 영향을 미치는 인과적 조건은 ‘진로 혼란에 빠짐’, ‘진로 상담에 대한 양가감정’, ‘진로 설계의 중요성 인식’이었으며, 맥락적 조건은 ‘자기 성장에 대한 관심’, ‘지인들의 태도’이었다. 중재적 조건은 ‘스토리 구성을 위한 촉진과 조력’, ‘스토리텔링의 역동성’, ‘상담자의 지지’로 나타났다. 중심현상을 해결하기 위해 사용하는 작용/상호작용 전략은 ‘의아함’, ‘난감함’, ‘신기함’, ‘뿌듯함’, ‘글쓰기에 힘을 쏟음’, ‘어려움을 타개해 나감’, ‘새로운 진로 실행 계획을 수립함’, ‘감각 만들기가 활발해 짐’, ‘반성과 성찰이 늘어남’ 으로 나타났다. 또한 작용/상호작용 전략의 결과로는 ‘자기 이해가 확장되어 감’, ‘자긍심이 높아짐’, ‘진로 목표가 명료해 짐’, ‘생애초상화에 따른 삶을 지향해 나감’이 도출되었다. 본 과정을 시간의 흐름에 따라 정리하여 보면 ‘점화 단계’, ‘형상화 단계’, ‘구체화 단계’, ‘행동화 단계’, ‘확장 단계’의 5단계로 설명할 수 있다. 진로 구성 상담에 참여한 성인 내담자들이 어떤 과정을 거치는가에 대한 핵심범주는 ‘스토리를 구성하며 삶의 주인공으로 거듭나기’로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 진로 구성 상담 과정에 대한 논의와 후속연구에 대한 제언을 하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 성인 내담자들이 진로 구성 상담에서 경험하는 변화 과정을 구체적으로 확인할 수 있었으며, 연구의 결과는 진로 구성 상담을 실행하는 현장에서 보다 실효성 있는 개입과 처방을 위한 구체적인 정보를 제공하였다는 데 의의가 있다.
