This study examined major statistical indicators of universities of education and base national universities. And cases of Gyeongin National University of Education and Jeju National University-Jeju National University were analyzed. Finally, the pros and cons and practical possibilities of university integration by region and the integration of base national universities and colleges were examined.
Main statistical indicators shows that the base national universities have better financial conditions than national universities of education. The case analysis of Gyeongin National University of Education shows that since classes were held on the Incheon campus in the 1st and 2nd grades and the Gyeonggi (Anyang) campus in the 3rd and 4th grades, various inconveniences were exposed in the continuity of students' academics and extracurricular activities. It appears that administrative and financial difficulties are increasing at GINUE. Jeju National University-Jeju National University of Education integration case illustrated that Jeju National University of Education is providing excellent educational support for students, including sending overseas teaching practice for the first time among the universities. Thus, the advantages of consolidation between base national university and national university of education were more evident. Since most of the base national universities and universities are located close to each other, effective campus integration is possible. The advantages of consolidation between base national university and national university of education include providing various liberal arts courses to preliminary elementary school teachers, diversification of non-curricular operations, opening a doctoral degree in elementary education, and reducing administrative works for professors.
