지리교육의 기본개념 분석 연구: 국내외 지리교육과정 분석을 중심으로 = A Study on Basic Concepts for Geography Education: Centered on the Analysis of Korean and Foreign Geography Curriculums

The selection of basic concepts for geography education is an important task to make the identity of geography education and it is also necessary for developing geographical thinking of students. In this context, this study analyzed the basic concepts for geography education through analysis of geography curriculums of 2015 revised geography curriculum and six countries, USA (California), Canada (Ontario), UK, New Zealand, Australia and Singapore. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for discussing the basic concepts for geography education in Korea.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

지리교육의 기본개념 선정과 교육은 지리교육의 정체성을 살리는 중요한 과제이며, 지리적 사고력 함양을 위해서도 필요하다. 이러한 배경에서 본 연구에서는 2015개정 지리교육과정과 6개 국가, 미국 캘리포니아 주, 캐나다 온타리오 주, 영국, 뉴질랜드, 호주, 싱가포르의 지리교육과정에서 지리교육의 기본개념을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 향후 우리나라 지리교육의 기본개념 선정 논의를 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 7개 국가들에서 주로 적용되고 있는 기본개념들은 인간과 환경과의 관계, 위치, 장소(지역, 공간 포함), 이동, 지속가능환경, 스케일, 지리적 기술과 답사 등이었다. 둘째, 국가별로 적용하고 있는 기본개념의 수, 기본개념의 유형, 강조하는 기본개념, 개념학습을 위한 내용구성면 등에서 차이가 있다. 이러한 차이는 국가의 사회적 상황과 문화적 환경, 그리고 교육의 중점 방향 등의 특성이 반영된 결과로 보인다.
