朴殷植 『韓國痛史』의 새로운 이해 맥락 : 공간적 복합성과 시간적 복합성 = New historical understanding of Park Eunsik[朴殷植]’s Hanguktongsa[韓國痛史] : focusing on the transnational and transtemporal context in the modern history of Korean historiography

Park Eunsik's Hanguktongsa[韓國痛史], Painful History of Korea is well-known as an important work in the history of modern Korean historiography that is nationalistic in nature. In the prologue and epilogue of the book, Park is credited with introducing readers to the ideas of national history and national spirit from the perspective of the national independence movement. This is where the traditional reading of this book comes in. However, when we examine the locality of the book’s historical emergence and the temporality of its historical consciousness, we find the context of modern China intervening in the historical emergence of the book at the transnational level, and also the context of premodern Korea intervening in the historical consciousness of the book at the transtemporal level. This will contribute to a broader understanding of Park Eunsik’s Hanguktongsa in the modern Korean intellectual history.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

朴殷植의 『韓國痛史』는 한국 근대 민족주의 역사학의 대표적인 작품으로 저명하다. 지은이는 책의 서론과 결론에서 국사와 국혼의 메시지를 불어넣어 독자들에게 실천적인 독립운동의 시야에서 이 책을 읽도록 견인하였다. 지금까지 이 책의 전통적인 독법은 여기에서 발원하였다. 그러나 이 책의 역사적 출현과 역사의식을 둘러싼 지성사적 맥락을 살펴보면 ‘근대 한국’이라는 단일한 시공간을 넘어서는 복합성이 내재해 있음을 발견한다. 곧 공간적 차원에서 이 책의 역사적 출현에 개입하는 근대 중국의 맥락, 그리고 시간적 차원에서 이 책의 역사의식에 개입하는 전근대 조선의 맥락이 그것이다. 이 책에서 보이는 바와 같은 역사적 시공간의 복합성의 문제는 근대전환기 한국 지성사의 너른 이해에 기여할 것이다.
