      유학의 경권론에 비추어 본 초등학교 도덕교육의 성격 = Jing-quan Lun and Its Implication on Moral Education

      Jing-quan Lun 經權論 which may be called the Confucian theory of ethics deals with the problem ‘How can our life be described from a moral point of view?’ Neo-Confucianists made a revolution in answering the question. They tried to explain morality in the light of the twofold structure of world or mind. In their view, morality is nothing but the unmanifested mind xing 性, zhong 中, or jing 經, and every human behavior is an outward expression of the unmanifested mind. Seen in this light, human life is the manifestation of jing, and a moral tone of one`s behavior wholly depends on the level of one`s cultivation of mind. Jing-quan Lun implies that all problems of moral education derive from the relationship between the unmanifested mind and the manifested moral behavior, and that the aim of moral education lies in the cultivation of the unmanifested mind. These implications suggest serious theoretical questions: How is the cultivation of the unmanifested mind possible?; Is it true that to initiate manifested moral behavior is the only way to reach the unmanifested mind? In the process of treating these questions, we ascertain a real figure of the Confucian moral education, and also we find a key to solve the problems of moral education in modern school.
