This study aims to analyze the structural relations of the related variables on the consciousness of human rights including human right education, discriminating behavior, and extent of respect as related experiences and self esteem variable using structural equation modeling method. The data used in this study come from “Korean Survey on the Rights of Children and Youth in 2014,” and the 3,711 responses from high school students were selected among 10,484 student samples from 4th grades to hight school students across the countury.
According to the research results, several findings can be summarized as follows: First, the extend of respect for human rights has direct positive influences on the consciousness of human rights. Second, experiences of human right education have no significant influences on consciousness variable. Second, the extent of respect variable and the experiences of human right education have no indirect significance on the path to discriminative experiences through self-seteem. Third, self-esteem has no direct influence on discriminative experiences. Fourth, discriminative experiences has direct negative influences on human right consciousness.
Based on these study results, several suggestions for better human right education, democratic system improvement, rights-based school practices were discussed and provided.
