The purpose of this study was to investigate the nature and characteristics of parody expressed in the works of modern ballet choreographer Mats Ek. For doing this, Mats Ek's works, Giselle and Swan Lake, were analyzed from the perspective of parody ballet in terms of choregraphic characteristics, figure, and stage
The followings were the result of this study:
First of all, the image of male and female were changed each other. Especially, homosexual image were represented in the works.
Secondly, Mats Ek tried to put various life style of modern man in his works. Eventually, his works focused its direction on the realistic aspect in our life.
Thirdly, he pointed out modern human being's dehumanization which contains moral corruption, value confusion, sexual chaos, and political power game etc.
In conclusion, the essential nature of parody in ballet not only has its artistic accomplishment but also become a direction toward the future development. It plays an important role for establishing the direction for the realistic choreography.
