      This study aims to verify the Retranslation Hypothesis and explore transcreation features by examining the Korean translation released in 2000 and the retranslation in 2021 of lines by Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) in the game <DIABLO II>. To achieve this, the Type-Token Ratio (TTR) and sentence length of the original text (ST) of the first translation (TT1) and the retranslation (TT2) are calculated and compared. Additionally, the transcreation strategies used for NPC lines are categorized into three groups: addition, modification, and deletion. Based on the analysis of TTR, sentence length, and the degree of transcreation, this study finds that the retranslation hypothesis does not hold true in game translation. TT2 exhibited a higher TTR and shorter sentence length compared to TT1 and, thus, showed greater divergence from the ST. Regarding transcreation strategies, TT1 and TT2 revealed a statistically significant difference. Both versions primarily utilized modification, followed by deletion and addition. However, in contrast to TT1, TT2 demonstrated more intense translator intervention, with higher levels in all translation strategy categories. This study is significant as it is the first attempt to verify the retranslation hypothesis in the field of game translation and sheds light on the quantatative and qualitative differences in strategies between TT1 and TT2 over a span of more than 20 years.
