The Impact of a Sense of Calling on Teacher Job Satisfaction

Using the data from Korean Education Longitudinal Study 2005-2007, this studyexamines the impact of a sense of calling on teacher job satisfaction. For the purpose ofthe study, hierarchical linear modeling was employed because teachers are nested withinschool contexts. The result of this study indicated that a sense of calling has asignificantly positive effect on teacher job satisfaction. The finding implies that teacherswith a sense of calling are more satisfied with their job and works. This current studysuggests that a sense of calling should be emphasized in teacher candidates and consideredas one of criteria to select prospective teachers.
