‘장소 특정적’ 공연을 통한 지역 특성화의 시도와 그 효과 = An attempt and effect of region characterization through a ‘site specific’ performance : Based on the Site-Specific Dance Performance 〈existence〉 performed in Soje-dong

국문 초록 (Abstract)

20세기 도시개발은 지역 간 그리고 지역 내의 양극화를 초래하였다. 이러한 현상은 개발지역과 원도심지역의 불균형이라는 문제점을 야기 시켰다. 이에 대한 대안으로 낙후된 원도심 지역을 예술로써 복원하고 보존하려는 도시재생 개념과 지역 특성화 작업이 주목을 받고 있다.
본 연구는 장소 특정적 무용공연 〈존재〉를 통한 지역 특성화의 시도와 그 효과에 대한 논의이다. 효과적 논의를 위해 장소 특정적 공연의 의미를 살펴보고, 프랑스의 ‘퓌뒤푸 테마파크(Puy du Fou Teme Park)’ 사례를 제시하여 지역의 정체성 확립을 위한 장소 특정적 공연의 필요성을 확인하였다. 또한 작품 〈존재〉의 기획과정을 기록하고 작품에 협력했던 대전지역 도시재생전문가, 대전예술행정가, 도시재생과 교수의 인터뷰를 통해 지역 특성화에 장소 특정적 무용 공연이 미친 효과와 그 활성화 방안에 대해서 살펴보았다. 그리고 이병민(2013)의 논문에 제시된 창조적 장소 브랜딩의 모델(안)에 작품 〈존재〉를 적용하여 장소 특정적 무용 공연의 효과와 필요성에 대해 제시하였다.
공연 시도 결과, 장소 특정적 무용 공연 〈존재〉는 대전의 역사적 가치와 그 장소의 이미지를 무용 예술을 통해 부각시켜 역사 인식과 지역 정체성 확립에 효과적이라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 장소 특정적 공연은 낙후된 지역에 거주하는 주민들, 지역 예술행정기관, 대전예술가들이 서로 소통하여 협업으로 이루어져야 지속가능함을 확인하였다. 이러한 장소 특정적 공연의 시도와 연구가 앞으로 이와 같은 작업을 하려는 지역 문화예술 전문가들에게 기초적인 토대가 되기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Urban development in 20<SUP>th</SUP> century cause a polarization between regions. This phenomenon result in an imbalanced growth between developed regions and original downtown. To solve this problem, urban regeneration and site-specific methods have been attracted a great attention. The two methods are based on the restoration and preservation of underdeveloped region using an art.
In this study, it is discussed that an attempt of local specialization and its effect though the site-specific dance performance 〈existence〉. At first, the meaning of site specific performance was discussed. And then, the needs of site specific performance was studied by means of suggesting the Puy du Fou theme park case in France. In addition to the case study, the effect of site specific dance performance and its activation plan was discussed by using a record of a planning process and interviews of urban regeneration experts, art executive officer and urban regeneration professor in Daejeon. Finally, the need and effect of site specific dance performance was suggested by employing the adapting a place branding model which is proposed in the Lee, Byung-Min et al.‘s paper to the work 〈existence〉.
Because the site specific dance performance 〈existence〉 highlight the historical value of Daejeon and the image of the place through a dance art, it was verified that the performance have extensively and effectively affect on the local identity establishment and historical recognition. And it was also verified that communication and cooperation between the residents who have been lived in under developed region, local art administrative organ and artists in the region is required to continue a site specific dance performance. It would be expected that the attempt of the site specific dance performance and the study become a basement to the local culture and art experts who will have a plan to do a this kind of work.
