THE value of the art of printing may be illustrated by the following true story. Seventy years since a widow, named Lee, lived in the village of Longnor, near Shrewsbury. She was very poor, and had to support three children with the labour of her own hands. The eldest of the children was a boy, who, at the age of twelve years, was put apprentice to a carpenter, through the charity of a neighbouring gentleman. The boy underwent hardships which boys even of his age will seldom endure patiently; but he had no father to protect him; he knew that his mother, having still two children to support, was unable to provide for him better; and he judged it best to submit to his lot.
