The purpose of this study is to review theory-driven and evidence-based approaches to connect urban regeneration with healthy cities. It examined relevant theories of urban regeneration and health including social determinants of health, sustainable urban regeneration and healthy cities, and relationship between public health and urban renewal policies. As a review of case studies, this study investigated a few pre-and-post studies of urban renewal programs, and comparative experiments in urban renewals with control groups. Most cases revealed that urban regeneration projects had positive effects on residents’ health. There is a few evidence of the impact of urban regeneration projects on residents’ health condition. This paper provides useful insights to collaborate healthy city movement with urban regeneration projects in Korea.
