This thesis is about the participation of the laity in the ministry of sanctifying according to the Code of Canon law of 1983. Especially, the article 230 is considered as the key subject of this thesis. Because, the article 230 refers to the three ministries which are conferred to lay people; the stable ministry, the temporal ministry and extraordinary ministry. The consideration on the nature of the Church in Vatican Council Ⅱ has changed the picture of the Church from the lawful and hierarchical feature into the charismatic and spiritual feature. So to speak, the Church is considered as the mystical body. Therefore, according to the ecclesiology of Vatican Council Ⅱ, all the members of the people of God are fundamentally equal, and everyone in accordance with one s condition participates in the priesthood of Christ, his prophetic and royal mission which is the threefold ministry of all the Christians. The Code of Canon law of 1983 has taken over the spirit of Vatican Council Ⅱ. It explains the ministry of sanctifying of the laity in the Code of Canon law on the basis of Ministeria Quaedam (1972) which is the Motu Proprio proclaimed by Pope Paul Ⅵ and Ecclesiae de mysterio (1997) which is the instruction about the incorporation of the laity with the priesthood of the priest; these two documents are said to be the sources of the article 230 of the Code of Canon law of 1983. As for the confusing problems between the ministry of the priest due to the ordination and the ministry committed to the laity, in other words, it is examined on the basis of Ecclesiae de mysterio (1997) which is the instruction aboutthe incorporation of the laity with the priesthood of the priest. It is the teaching of the Holy Bible (1Pt 2,9-10) and the Code of Canon Law (208) that all the Christians, who are united with the Christ by baptism and called as the people of God, especially all the men and women of the laity, are basically equal. Consequently, it is not desirable to make the difference between man and woman in conferring ministries which do not come from the ordi¬nation. Furthermore, we should take notice of the relationship between the ministerial priesthood and the common priesthood in view of the service and the incorporation for the people of God, particularly, of the last article of the canon law, Salus animarum suprema lex . As to the role and ministry of the laity who take part in the priesthood of the Christ, at the same time, the Church has to suggest the accurate principles with open mind.
