A substantial amount of pears is classified as off-grade in the packing process for export in korean export full-time orchards every year. In this study, we tried to analyse the causes of pear scab for improving the export pear's quality and safety. From 2009 to 2011, we investigated off-grade pears produced at korean export full-time orchards located in Naju, the major pear producing area in Korea. The failure ratio by the major pear disease and pest kept over 50% for three years. The pear scab mainly resulted in the decrease of pass ratio of korea export pear among many pear diseases or pests. The korean export full-time orchards with the lower pass ratio has lack of management practices for control the first infection period of pear scab caused by Venturia nashicola, compared to those with the higher pass ratio. In addition, another cause was due to the use of one class of pesticide, DMI fungicides, to control the pear scab. In conclusions, the most important thing is to control effectively the pear scab by the scientific and integrated management methods to
reduce the off-grade pears and increase the high-quality pears for export in korean export full-time orchards.
