민족 개념의 변주와 아리랑 너머의 아리랑 = Variation of the concept of nation and Arirang beyond Arirang

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 아리랑이 세계로 확산되는 과정에서 한민족의 민족 개념이 다양한 나라의 민족 개념으로 변주되는 현상을 논의하기 위해 작성되었다. 다양한 모습의 작품을 아리랑이라는 공통된 이름으로 부를 수 있는 근거를 원형이라고 할 때, 아리랑의 원형 중에 중요한 것은 민족이다. 애정을 비롯하여 인간의 삶을 관통하는 많은 보편 감정이 아리랑에 수용되어 있지만 그것을 전체적으로 포괄하는 것이 민족이다.
외국으로 뻗어나가는 아리랑은 대체로 20세기 한민족의 고난과 그에 따른 이주에 발맞추어 확산되었다. 외국으로 이주한 한민족 구성원들은 아리랑을 통해서 민족적 정체성을 공유했다. 그러나 시간이 흐르면서 해당 국가에서 아리랑을 하나의 예술 작품으로 받아들이면서 그 안에 한민족의 민족 개념에서 자신들의 민족 개념으로 확산하려는 모습이 발견된다. 이러한 사례는 아리랑이 한민족의 아리랑에서 인류 보편의 문화 자산으로서의 아리랑으로 확산되는 현상을 말한다. 이를 통해서 민족 개념은 아리랑을 수용하는 국가의 상황에 맞추어 변용되면서 아리랑의 새로운 변주에 기여하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper was written to discuss the phenomenon in which the Korean concept of ethnicity is transformed into that of various countries in the process of spreading Arirang around the world. If we can say that the original form is the basis for calling works of various shapes under the common name Arirang, the most important of the archetypes of Arirang is the nation. Many universal emotions that penetrate human life, including affection, are accepted in Arirang, but what encompasses them as a whole is the nation.
Arirang, which has spread abroad, largely followed the hardships and subsequent migration of the Korean people in the 20th century. Members of the Korean community who migrated abroad shared their national identity through Arirang. However, as time goes by, as the country accepts Arirang as a art work, it is found that it is trying to spread from the Korean people's concept of nationality to their own national concept. This case refers to the phenomenon of Arirang spreading from the Arirang of the Korean people to Arirang as a universal cultural asset of humanity. Through this, the concept of nation is transformed to fit the situation of the country that accepts Arirang, contributing to new variations of Arirang.
