『로빈슨 크루소』의 상상력은 진리를 말하는가? = Does Imagination Tell the Truth in the Study of Robinson Crusoe?

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인간은 세상을 설명하는 상상력을 감각적으로 인식한다. 상상력에는 세상을 인식할 수 있는 요소들이 포함되어 있다. 상상력은 시대마다 다른 규범에 의해 이질적으로 정의된다. 그러나 고정된 상상력에는 우리가 세상을 이해하기 위한 개념이 없다. 상상력은 인접학문과의 연결, 닮음, 차이 그리고 논쟁을 통해 표현된다. 고대의 시와 18세기의 소설에서 상상력은 이상적인 사회, 제도 그리고 교육을 완성하기 위한 공격의 대상이었다. 상상력은 플라톤(Plato)이 국가에 대한 완벽한 체계를 찾으면서 발생되었다. 하지만 시인이 공공의 적으로 인식되었기 때문에 상상력은 구체적으로 이론화되지 못했다. 이것은 너무나 충격적인 사건이었지만 그것의 원인을 찾으려는 도전은 거의 없었다. 문학 이론가들은 플라톤이 시보다 더 중요한 무엇인가를 발견했기 때문에 그가 시인을 국가에서 추방했다고 믿었다. 다니엘 디포(Daniel Defoe)의 『로빈슨 크루소』(Robinson Crusoe)에 등장하는 크루소는 지식인으로 풍부한 상상력을 생산했다. 허구의 관점에서 보면 크루소는 노동하는 지식인이다. 그는 유토피아의 세상에서 경제적 성공을 성취한 인간이었다. 상상력은 그런 곳에서 최고의 정점에 이른다. 플라톤은 『국가』(Republic)에서 시인을 상상력이 없는 엘리트로 간주했다. 칸트(Immanuel Kant)는 대상의 현전 없이 직관으로 표상하는 것을 상상력으로 정의했다. 우리가 말하는 상상력은 칸트에 의해 새롭게 받아들여졌다. 그리고 푸코(Michel Foucault)는 군주에게 진실을 조언할 수 있는 관계를 통해 상상력을 설명했다. 이 논문은 플라톤, 칸트 그리고 푸코의 상상력이 최소의 단위에 포함되어있다는 사실에서 출발한다. 이언와트(Ian Pierre Watt)의 『소설의 발생』, 피에르 마쉬레(Pierre Macherey)의 『문학 생산이론을 위하여』, 그리고 질 들뢰즈(Gilles Deleuze)의 『의미의 논리』에는 크루소의 성공신화, 다른 주제의 재현에 대한 침묵과 부재의 문제, 그리고 타자들에 대한 탐구의 요소들이 텍스트의 곳곳에 편재되어 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 소설 속에서 주인공이 말하는 진실과 상상력에 대한 문제는 더욱 깊이 연구되어 져야만 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In the novels, a character desires to have new sense of describing the world in the power of imagination that creates elements to recognize specific conditions of the event. This kind of imagination has produced heterogeneous results, because we were used to bifurcate something meaningful from different concepts. The situations understood by imagination conflate literary works extensively in itself. We know that our imagination in the meticulous places are expressed by the lens of connections, similarities, differences, and arguments. In fact, imagination alone was abandoned from ancient republic when Plato thought imagination was not perfection for imitating ideal society and teaching the young. However, what imagination concocted by philosophers was not specifically theorized because poets did not tell the truth at that moment.
This was such a shocking event in this paper if there was nobody who tried to challenge the deadlock of cause and effect of imagination. Literary theorists believed that Plato expelled the poet from the fact that he discovered something more important than poetry. But Crusoe, who appeared in the novel, Robinson Crusoe of the 18th century, produced a wealth of imagination comparing new literary materials to the ideal world. From a fictional point of view, Robinson was just a working intellectual. There, imagination, which has not been clearly delineated since ancient times, was specifically demarcated in his words and made us experience the truth. He completed his economic success in the utopian world where the imagination reached its peak to create the indivisible remainders.
This conjectural idea stimulates our curiosity to go back the truth that Plato thought poets were imaginative elitists in the Republic. After understanding Plato in a problematic imagination, we can move on to the philosophical fact that Kant defined imagination as representing intuition without being in the reality of the object. He allowed us to understand imagination with reasonable image and episteme. And Foucault explained another imagination through the problem of a person who could tell the truth. According to Plato, Kant, and Foucault’s arguments, in this paper I try to show the belief that imagination is the minimum unit for telling the truth. The minimum unit is revealed from the store of imagination, where the secret of truth is hidden waiting for our visiting. Therefore, we can explore the imagination of recognizing the truth because it exists in a different time and place.
