      We have developed a high performance fused ring fluorescent host and dopant materials, 3-(2-naphthyl)-10-naphthylspiro[benzo[ij]tetraphene -7,9'-fluorene] (1), 1-[1-(4-biphenyl)]-10-phenylspiro[benzo[ij]tetraphene -7,9'-fluorene] (2) and 3,9-di(di(p-ditolyl))aminospiro[benzo[de]anthracene- 7,9'-fluorene] (D3), for blue organic light-emitting diodes. 1, 2 and D3 formed a stable amorphous solid state film with a high glass transition temperature 179, 168 and 148°C. The structure of the device fabricated was as follows: ITO (150 nm)/N,N’-diphenyl-N,N’-bis[4- (phenyl-m-tolyl-amino)phenyl]-biphenyl-4,4’-diamine (DNTPD, 60 nm)/ N,N,N’,N’-tetra(1-biphenyl)-biphenyl-4,4’-diamine (TBB, 30 nm)/1 or 2 host: D3 dopant (5%, 30 nm)/9,10-di(naphthalene-2-yl)anthracen-2-yl- (4,1-phenylene)(1-phenyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole) (LG201, 20 nm)/ LiF (1 nm)/Al (200 nm). The multilayer devices fabricated using 1 and 2 as a blue host and D3 as a blue dopant materials showed higher power efficiency 6.86 cd/A at 7,753 cd/m2 and 6.67 cd/A at 5,549 cd/m2 than the conventional device using 9,10-di(2-naphthyl)anthracene (β-ADN) (4.74 cd/A at 895 cd/m2) at 7 V.
