신사임당 담론의 변천사와 교육적 함의 = Transition and Educational Implications of Shin Saimdang Discussion

국문 초록 (Abstract)

유일한 화폐 속 여성 인물로서 한국사의 대표적인 여성위인이라 할 수 있는 신사임당은 그동안 실체와 거리가 먼 이미지로 존재해왔다. 역사적 인물 가운데 신사임당만큼 실체와 거리가 먼 인물도 없었을 것이다. 생존 당시 명망 있던 사대부들에 의해 화가로 기록되었던 신사임당은 18세기에 이르러 서인 노론 학파에 의해 율곡이라는 훌륭한 인물을 탄생케 한 어머니로 인식되었다. 이후 1900년대 근대화 시기에는 교육받은 여성인물인 신여성으로 소개되었고, 일제강점기에는 군국의 어머니 또는 총후부인으로 묘사되기도 했다. 해방 후에는 현모양처의 대명사로 국가적인 차원에서 기념되는 여성인물이 되었다. 오랫동안 여성들의 교육에 활용되어 온 인물이자 유일한 화폐 속 여성인물로 여전히 대중적인 영향력을 발휘하고 있는 신사임당에 대해 보다 정확한 인식의 재고가 필요한 시점이다. 본고에서는 신사임당 사후 5세기동안 형성된 신사임당 담론의 변화과정을 살펴보고, 현재 교과서에서 신사임당의 모습과 앞으로 교과서에서 신사임당이 어떻게 제시될 수 있을지에 대해 논의해보고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Shin Saimdang, the only woman in Korean history to be designated as a person of currency, has existed as an image far from reality. Shin Saimdang, recorded as a painter of the time when he survived, was recognized in the 18th century as the mother who gave birth to a great character named Yulgok. After the 1900s, she was introduced as a representative of educated women in the modern period, and during the Japanese colonial period, she was introduced as a mother of the military.
After liberation, it became a female figure celebrated at the national level as the epitome of wise mother. It is time to reconsider a more accurate perception of Shin Saimdang, which has long been used in women's education and is the only female character in currency who still exerts popular influence. In this paper, I would like to examine how the image of Shin Saimdang has changed to form Shin Saimdang discourse, and suggest how Shin Saimdang can be presented in the current textbook and in the future.
