At least until the Park Chung-hee regime settled down, Daegu was a region that led the modern values of Korean society. This study defined the spirit of 2·28 as an ideological asset of Daegu conservative and defined it in a conservative way.
In Chapter Ⅱ, the original meaning of conservatism was conceptualized as 'substantial and universal conservatism', and the reactionary tendencies of Daegu conservative were critically reviewed through comparison with this. Then, the conservative semantics of the spirit of 2·28 were constructed.
In Chapter Ⅲ, the conservatism of the spirit of 2·28 was established in the context of traditional thought. Here, while pointing out the paradoxical situation of the ideological poverty inherent in Korean conservative, the relevance between the spirit of 2·28 and traditional thought was discussed, focusing on ‘righteousness’, ‘progressiveness’, and ‘commitment to nation.’
In Chapter Ⅳ, ‘conservatism of the spirit of 2·28’ was established in the context of democracy. Here, based on the interrelationship between conservatism and democracy, the specific relationship between 2·28 which advocated the realization of general democracy, and ‘conservative democracy’ was examined.
In the conclusion, this study raised a critical view on the reality that 2·28, which played a leading role in realizing modern values in the early period of the nation-state, was exhausting its continuity as a ‘meaningful history.’
