Landscape Interpretatioin of Mt. Jiri Traveling Place viewed from People in Joseon

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Though landscaping is used as ordinary term, it is polysemantic or ambiguous to define or explain in a word. This is thought to be mainly due to interpretation on landscaping from mutually different viewpoint in interdisciplinary approaches.
Therefore, this study is laid on contemplation of significance of part in practical view on landscape about the places emerging centrally in the records written by ancestors after touring around Mt, Jiri during Chosun Dynasty from the viewpoint that landscape connotes implicative symbolism making the writers feel meaning and essence of life beyond the dimension of simply seeing and enjoying in order to provide opportunity of narrowing width of interdisciplinary cognition and understanding.
First, the part which is clearly compared between touring during Chosun Dynasty period and mountain climbing by contemporary people can be interpreted to have reflected by the form that puts weight on mental culture in motive and act for climbing Mt. Jiri. It is necessary to have a view to examine meaning of climbing Mr. Jiri contained in the contemporary culture and process of contemporary people based on understanding of social relation, identity and symbolism in those places containing in the process of touring of the people in the past.
Second, considering the described contents as the method of expression about the impressive memory during touring, its expression intensively appeared about Cheon Wang Bong Peak area in the analysis of appearance frequency of places in tour records. Cheon Wang Bong Peak of Mr. Jiri is the highest summit at inland of Korea Peninsula, which is a place possessed of symbolic significance to those who climb Mt. Jiri.
Third, 6 of 31 tour records that recorded description of landscapes about more than 10 places showed potentiality of tour records that can graft in the area of analysis of landscapes related to Mt. Jiri and studies on geographic information.
