『격몽요결』 ｢입지장｣의 초등 도덕과교육적 특징과 의미 탐색

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 초등 도덕과교육의 관점에서 격몽요결의 첫 장인 입지장을 탐색하여 초등 도덕과교육에 갖는 특징과 의미를 밝히는 것이다. 율곡이 격몽요결을 통해 이루고자 했던 학문의 목적은 성인이라는 목표의 확립에서 출발한다. 이것은 도덕성 함양을 통한 도덕적 인간의 지향이라는 지금의 초등 도덕과교육의 목표와 상통하고 있다.
본 연구를 통해 얻은 입지장의 도덕과교육적 의미는 입지장이 입지라는 주제 아래 도덕적 지향성과 도덕적 주체성 그리고 도덕적 실천성이 서로 맞물리며 초학자들이 견고하게 도덕적 자기 완성을 향해 가는 힘을 갖출 수 있는 가르침을 담고 있다는 것이다. 그 각각은 구체적으로 다음과 같은 의미가 있다. 첫째, 도덕적 지향성을 갖게 되면, 학생들은 도덕적 목표가 생기고, 도덕적 기준이 생기며 이를 통해 일상의 선택과 행위를 도덕적 목표와 합치되는 방향으로 이끌 수 있게 된다. 둘째, 도덕적 주체성을 갖게 되면 학생들이 자신이 도덕적 주체임을 인식함으로써 자신의 행동과 결정이 자신과 사회에 미치는 영향에 대해 보다 깊이 생각하게 된다. 셋째, 도덕적 지향성과 도덕적 주체성이 확립되었다면, 이 모든 것은 학생들의 직접적인 일상 속의 도덕적 실천을 통해 실현되어야 한다.
율곡의 격몽요결과 입지장은 지금의 도덕과교육이 당면한 여러 가지 문제점의 해결에 대한 중요한 해답을 담고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to explore the “Chapter of Ibji” (立志章), the first chapter of Gyeokmongyogyeol (擊蒙要訣), from the perspective of elementary moral education and to elucidate its features and significance within this context. Yulgok’s objective in creating Gyeokmongyogyeol was to establish the goal of becoming a sage (聖人), which aligns with the current aims of elementary moral education focusing on the cultivation of morality and the orientation toward moral humanity.
The findings of this study reveal that the educational and moral significance of the “Chapter of Ibji” lies in its encapsulation of teachings that intertwine moral orientation, moral subjectivity, and moral praxis under the theme of Ibji(立志). These teachings enable students to develop a robust drive toward moral self-completion. Specifically, the implications are as follows. First, by developing a moral orientation, students can form moral objectives and standards that guide their daily choices and actions in alignment with these moral goals. Second, attaining moral subjectivity allows students to recognize themselves as moral agents and to contemplate more deeply on the impact of their actions and decisions on themselves and society. Third, once moral orientation and subjectivity are established, they should manifest through students’ direct moral practices in daily life.
Yulgok’s Gyeokmongyogyeol and the “Chapter of Ibji” hold vital solutions to various challenges faced by contemporary moral education, offering profound insights into addressing these issues.
