As interest in health has increased significantly since the COVID pandemic, wellness tourism, which aims to restore the balance of body, mind, and spirit and promote health through travel, is gaining attention. This study aims to phenomenologically examine the essential meaning of wellness tourism experiences perceived through wellness tourists’ tourism activities. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with nine participants who had visited wellness tourism destinations recommended by the Korea Tourism Organization, and the collected data was analyzed using the Colaizzi analysis method among phenomenological analysis methods. As a result of the research, four categories, 10 themes, and 36 meaningful statements were extracted. The four categories derived were ‘pause and reflection’, ‘rest and recovery’, ‘comfort and healing’, and ‘emptiness and filling’. The essential meaning of wellness tourism experiences can be said to be a healing experience that pauses life for a moment and empties and fills through rest and recovery. Through the study, the essential meaning of wellness travel in everyday life was understood, and it was suggested that philosophical reflection on a healthy and happy life is necessary through the true experience of wellness tourists.
