양택풍수의 공간구조와 내부상징성에 관한 연구 : 양택의 풍수인테리어를 중심으로

The purpose of this research is to review Korean traditional and symbolic interior housing space, and to comprehend how Korean viewpoints of nature and universe have been significant and take consideration for 양택(陽宅) and furthermore, to understand such background and systems.
As the Korean traditional natural geography, "Theory of Divination based on Geography"(풍수 지리학) is referred to as 'science academic school' to provide human beings with wisdom to choose or eliminate geography useful for all human creatures, making it a basic principle to maintain symbiotic relations with nature. Thus, the school should be distinguished from secularism.
Nonetheless, nature science-based "Theory of Divination based on Geography" has a tendency not to become academic education-oriented but become commercialism and secularism-oriented, in these days.
Thus, this research thesis aims to search fundamental roots of degenerated world views of nature pursued by our ancestors and misused contemporary 양택(陽宅) or "Sunny Region" -centered 'Theory of Divination based on Geography', and to reestablish the status of 'Theory of Divination based on Geography' as a daily science and set directions right for new cultural code that such theory should head for.
Considering that most Korean people gave top priority to the decision on geographical location-based housing sites in the process of 'building house', 'good' housing sites implied, in other word, the good geographic location in harmony with음양(陰陽) or Yeum and "Yang". Accepted as one of good signs, 'land shape' meant to provide human being with optimum housing environment, under the strong influence of providence.
The review of the changing and circulating natural phenomena based on interactions between 음기(陰氣)and 양기(陽氣) means, in other words, viewpoints of nature and universe that nature and human creatures play a mutually central role. The idea of 음양(陰陽), which hints that all living creatures including human beings are subject to principles and laws of universe and nature, has been rooted in Korean ethnic people's hearts. This demonstrated that housing has had significant effects on habitant space.
Thus, 'housing' represents not simply 'space for life' but 'the extension of ego and family and inherent world of life. For Koreans, housing is deemed as small universal value. This is evidenced by the fact that Korean ethnic people have regarded utopian world as the emblem of universal orders and systems, the products of ethnic group.
Hence, Korean traditional housing takes into reflection of such universal and natural world views in term of housing planning/ housing site choice/ configuration/ setting/ and shape. Each component and relations with such component materialize universal orders under the profound meaning and symbols.
It was 'housing site choice' that Koreans considered most important in the process of building housing, in traditional Korean history.
"Theory of Divination based on Geography" means that choosing good housing sites can make house builders happy. Otherwise, they can make those people unhappy. This was cited as the product, which was experienced through habitant space.
A traditional academic theory is classified into 음양오행(陰陽五行)-founded 'natural philosophical theory' and geographic forces and location -based 'natural geography theory' . Through the two theories, this research thesis conducted a case study on traditional and contemporary houses and apartments.
Specifically, this thesis made a comparative analysis of geographic patterns / forces/ and structures and furthermore, an exhaustive analysis of 양택 3요(陽宅 3要) determining 길흉(吉凶), so that both houses in the past and present can be reviewed as same theory and cases or applications of 'Theory of Divination based on Geography' into contemporary house can be made and new housing can be designed in the future.
Built on these results, this research thesis is deemed to contribute to creating and inducing space useful for human beings' everyday life, by applying and using multi-meanings and symbols of natural and spatial elements considered most important in 'Theory of Divination based on Geography', in a broader sense: ranging from interior space structure and remodeling and equipment.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 우리의 전통주거 공간구조와 그 내부의 구성요소가 가지고 있는 상징성의 고찰을 통하여, 우리의 자연관과 우주관이 양택(陽宅)에 어떠한 의미와 형태로 반영되었으며, 그 배경과 사유체계는 어떠한 맥락이었는지를 이해하는데 있다.
전통의 자연지리학인 풍수지리학은 자연과의 상생(相生)을 기본원리로 인간에게 유용한 지형을 취사선택할 수 있는 지혜를 주는 학문으로서 속신적(俗信的)인 술법(術法)과는 구별되어야 한다. 그러나 근래에 와서 자연과학적인 풍수론이 학문적 성향에서 벗어나 사람들을 현혹시키는 술법적인 측면으로 흐르는 경향이 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 선조들의 지혜로운 자연관의 퇴색과 오용되고 있는 현대 양택 풍수지리의 올바른 근원을 찾아 생활과학으로서의 풍수지리학의 위상을 재정립하고 새로운 문화코드로서의 방향성을 제시하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다.
한국인에게 있어서 집짓기는 집터의 선정에서부터 풍수적 판단을 최우선적으로 고려해 왔던바 좋은 집터는 음양(陰陽)이 조화를 이루는 입지(立地)적 길지(吉地)를 의미하였고, 택지(宅地)의 형상 또한 길상(吉相)으로서 천지(天地)의 기운이 한 데 모여 인간에게 최적의 주거환경을 제공한다는 것을 의미한다.
자연계의 변화와 순환의 이치를 음기(陰氣)와 양기(陽氣)의 상호작용으로 설명하는 것은 자연과 인간을 우주적 상호주체로 인정하는 자연관이며 우주관으로 인간을 포함한 우주 일체의 현상은 이러한 자연의 원리와 법칙성에 의한다는 음양(陰陽)사상은 이미 오랜 시기로부터 우리 민족의 사유체계로 정착되어 거주공간으로서의 집의 의미성에 중요한 영향을 미치고 있었음을 알 수 있다.
따라서 집이란 단지 생활을 위한 단순 형태가 아닌, 자아와 가족의 확장이며, 삶이 이루어지는 고유한 세계로서의 이상향으로 나타나게 되며, 이상향의 모상(貌相=模樣)은 그 민족 집단의 우주관에서 비롯된 우주적 질서로 표상(表象)된다할 수 있음으로 한국인에게 있어서 집은 소우주적 가치로 평가되기도 한다.
그러므로 우리의 전통 주거에는 집의 계획과 집터의 선정, 구성과 배치, 형태 등에 이러한 우주관과 자연관이 자연스럽게 녹아들어 그 바탕을 이루고 있으며, 각각의 구성 요소와 요소간의 관계가 그 의미와 상징성을 내포하면서 우주적 질서를 구현하고 있음을 알 수가 있다.
전통적으로 집을 지을 때 우리나라 사람들이 가장 중요하게 생각해온 요소는 집터의 선정이었다. 좋은 집터를 선택하게 되면 그 터로 말미암아 그 위에 집을 짓고 살아가는 사람들이 복(福)을 누릴 수 있고, 그렇지 못할 때에는 그 반대로 화(禍)가 미친다는 풍수론의 논리는 오랜 정주적(定住的) 생활속에서 경험적으로 체득한 산물이다.
집터 선정에 전통적으로 널리 통용되어온 이론은 음양오행(陰陽五行)론을 바탕으로 하는 자연철학적 이론(理氣論)과 지형(地形)의 지세(地勢)와 입지(立地)에 대한 형국(形局)을 위주로 보는 자연지리적 이론(形氣論)으로 대별된다. 본 연구는 이 두 가지 이론적 고찰을 통해 전통주택과 현대주택 및 아파트에 대한 사례분석을 병행하였다.
이를 위해 지형에 대한 형상과 택지주변의 지형지세를 포함하여 집의 구조를 위주로 길흉(吉凶)을 가늠하는 양택 3요(陽宅 3要)론적 분석 등을 통해 과거주택과 현대주택에 대한 검증을 동일한 이론으로 고찰하고 현대주택에 대한 풍수론의 적용실태를 파악하여 미래의 한국형 주택에 대한 새로운 방향성을 제시하고자 하였다.
이 같은 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 방위와 관련하여 풍수론에서 매우 중요하게 다루고 있는 자연물과 공간성에 대한 다양한 의미와 상징성을 현대주택의 내외공간구조와 실내구조물 및 인테리어 소품에 이르기까지 적용하여 활용됨으로써 인간에게 유익한 삶의 터전으로서의 공간창출을 유도하는데 기여할 것으로 사료(思料)된다.
