元·明代 仙人 李鐵拐에 대한 현상학적 이해 = A Phenomenological Understanding of Immortal Li Tieguai(李鐵拐) in the Yuan and Ming Dynasties

국문 초록 (Abstract)

죽은 이의 몸을 빌려 다시 살아난 신선 이철괴가 元代에 등장했다. 그는 明·淸代 神仙 중 가장 인기 있는 신선이지만, 그의 특징에 관해선 지금까지 제대로 논의되지 않았다. 본고는 道敎적 인체관의 흐름에서 仙人 이철괴의 위치를 살피고, 道家의 대범주에서 그의 시대적 변화를 살핀다. 새로운 형태의 선인 철괴는 중세의 어떠한 배경에서 등장한 것인지, 등장 이후 근세에 이르러 어떻게 변모해갔는지를 추적한다. 이를 바탕으로 철괴라는 선인에 대한 현상학적 탐구를 시도한다. 尸解·借屍還魂 등 신체에 대한 근본과 그 변화 양상을 현재의 언어와 개념으로 설명하기에 현상학이론이 유용하기 때문이다. ‘신선의 세계’는 ‘다름없는 자신’만의 ‘경험’이 ‘지속’됨으로써 ‘存續 가능한 것’이었다. 이때 신체의 절대적 필요가 전제된다. 불사의 신선, 그 몸이 지니는 의미를 통해 볼 수 있었던 것은 다름 아닌 육체에의 존중이었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Immortal Li Tieguai, who had borrowed a corpse to resurrect the soul, first appeared during the Yuan dynasty. While he was one of the most popular immortals in the Ming and Qing dynasties, his characteristics have yet to be thoroughly discussed. This paper examines the position of Li Tieguai within the flow of Taoist perspectives on the body and explores the historical changes he underwent within the broader context of Taoism. It traces the appearance of Tieguai as a new type of immortal, delving into the medieval backgrounds from which he emerged and analyzing how his image evolved into the pre-modern era. Based on this analysis, the paper offers a phenomenological study of the immortal Li Tieguai. The theory of phenomenology proves useful for explaining the fundamentals of the body and its changes — such as the concepts of corpse dissolution and borrowing a corpse to return the soul — using contemporary language and ideas. The world of immortals could only be sustained through the continuous experience of themselves, implying an absolute necessity for the body. Through the significance of the immortal's body, what is revealed is, above all, a respect for the physical body.
