乃菴 崔左海의 춘천에서의 학문‧강학 활동과 인적 네트워크 = Naeam(乃菴) Choi Jwa-Hae(崔左海)'s Academic and Teaching Activities and Human Network in Chuncheon(春川)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 18세기 春川 출신의 문인‧학자 崔左海(1738~1799)를 대상으로, 그가 춘천에서 수행한 학문 및 강학 활동의 양상과 지역 사회를 기반으로 구축한 인적 네트워크의 면면을 살핀 글이다.
隋城崔氏 가문은 10世 崔汲 때부터 춘천 西上里 지역에 터를 잡고 거주해 왔다. 그런 만큼 최좌해는 젊은 시절부터 이곳에 근거를 두며 활발한 학문 및 강학 활동을 수행하였다. 그의 춘천에서의 학적 활동은 시기 및 공간에 따라 크게 넷으로 구분할 수 있다. 靑年期(元通山 書齋 강학기)-壯年期(金光里 龍巖書齋 강학기)-中年期(華岳山 鰲洲 乃菴書齋 강학기)-老年期(華岳山 鰲洲 龍巖書 齋 강학기)가 그것이다. 이중 가장 성대한 규모를 이루었던 것은 청년기와 노년기의 강학 활동이다. 이를 통해 최좌해는 자신의 학문 연구 및 저술 작업의 기 반을 마련하고, 폭넓은 규모로 후학을 양성할 수 있었다.
최좌해가 춘천 지역을 기반으로 형성한 인적 네트워크의 양상은 크게 셋으로 구분하여 논할 수 있다. 첫째는 李復烈‧李鼎烈 등 최좌해의 인척 관계를 중심으로 이루어진 교유, 둘째는 수성최씨와 인접한 지역에 거주하고 있던 宜寧 南氏와의 교유, 셋째는 관인 및 지역 명사와의 교유이다. 이를 통해 당시 최좌해가 지역 사회에서 구가한 학적 명성을 간접적으로 이해할 수 있었다.
이처럼 최좌해의 학문과 강학 활동, 교유 관계에는 ‘춘천’이라는 공간이 핵심 적으로 자리하고 있었다. 이와 같은 두터운 지역 사회 기반이 존재하였기에 그는 보다 원활한 연구와 저술, 교육에 임할 수 있었다. 그리고 그 결과는 18~19세기 춘천의 학풍 진작과 문화 성장의 자양분 제공이라는 성과로 자연스레 이어지게 되었다. 바로 이것이 최좌해를 이해함에 있어 ‘춘천’이라는 키워드를 우선적으로 고려해야 하는 이유이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis examines the academic and teaching activities he carried out in Chuncheon (春川) and the human network he built based on the local community, targeting the 18th-century Chuncheon-born scholar, Choi Jwa-hae(崔左海, 1738-1799).
The Suseong Choi clan(隋城崔氏) has lived in the Seosang-ri(西上里) of Chuncheon since the 10th generation. Accordingly, Choi Jwa-hae based himself here from his youth and actively engaged in academic and teaching activities.
His academic and teaching activities in Chuncheon can be largely divided into four periods and locations. These are the youth period, the adult period, the middle period, and the old period. Among these, the most magnificent ones were his activities during his youth and old age. Through this, Choi Jwa-hae was able to establish the foundation for his academic research and writing work, and to train his students on a wide scale.
The aspects of the human network that Choi Jwa-hae formed based on the Chuncheon can be largely divided into three categories. First, the social relations centered on Choi Jwa-hae’s relativesl, second, the social relations with the Uiryeong Nam clan(宜寧南氏) who lived in the area adjacent to the Suseong Choi clan, and third, the social relations with government officials and local celebrities. Through these, we can indirectly understand the academic reputation that Choi Jwa-hae had in the local community at the time.
