“간통한 아내 용서하기” 설화에 나타난 의로움(義)의 이면적 의미 -간통한 아내 용서하고 간부(姦夫)를 조정에서 만나다-유형을 중심으로 = The Other Side Meaning of Righteousness(義) Shown in Tale Titled “Forgiving Adulterous Wife”

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 ‘간통한 아내 용서하기’ 설화의 유형 중에서 ‘간통한 아내 용서하고 姦夫를 조정에서 만나기’ 설화를 통해서 그 의미가 무엇인지를 고찰한 것이다. 이 설화에서 중요한 내용은 아내의 간통 장면을 목격한 남편이 아내와 姦夫를 용서하는 훌륭한 인품을 드러내는 것이며, 이러한 남편의 의로운 행동을 통해서 姦夫와 남편이 서로 의형제를 맺는 것이다. 그러나 용서를 통한 의로움의 행위는 윤리 도덕적인 측면에서 주목받는 모습일 뿐 실상과는 다소 차이를 보이고 있다는 점에 주목하여야 한다. 일방적으로 혼인 약속을 파기당한 姦夫의 본성에 따라 행동한 모습은 이해받지 못하고, 간통을 저지른 행위로 인해 도덕적이지 못한 인물로 평가되고 있다. 또 다른 남성인물인 간통한 아내의 남편은 가문의 명예를 지키기 위해 자신을 희생하여 윤리 도덕적으로 훌륭한 인품을 지닌 인물로 평가받고 있다. 결국 두 남성은 윤리 도덕적인 규범에서자유로울 수 없었다는 것을 보여주고 있으며, 가부장제 이데올로기 속에서 억압받고 강요당하는 것이 여성뿐만이 아니라 남성에게도 견디기 힘든 일이었음을 확인할 수 있다. 흔히 간통의 이야기에서 대부분 징치당하고 비판받는 대상은 여성이었다. 자신의 정절을 지키지 못하는 여성에게 그 책임을 묻는 것이 간통 이야기의 핵심이었지만 ‘간통한 아내 용서하고 姦夫를 조정에서 만나기’ 설화에 나타나는 ‘간통’ 과 ‘용서’ 의 의미는 가부장제 이데올로기 속에서 윤리 도덕적으로 억압을 당하던 남성들의 모습을 드러내기 위한 소재였으며, 두 남성의 모습을 모두 긍정한다는 의미를 담고 있다. 따라서 설화에서 드러나는 의로움의 의미는 윤리 도덕적으로 훌륭한 행위를 한 남성의 모습을 높이 평가하는 동시에 그 이면에는 가부장제 이데올로기 속에서 이상적인 윤리 규범을 실천하기를 강요당하는 남성들의 모습이 담겨 있다는 것을 설화를 통해 말하고자 했음을 알 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study will consider what its meaning is through tale titled ‘forgiving adulterous wife and meeting adulterer(姦夫) in mediation’ out of a tale type dubbed ‘Forgiving Adulterous Wife.’ The important contents in this tale include what a husband of having witnessed wife`s adulterous scene reveals excellent personality of forgiving the wife and the adulterer and what the adulterer and the husband mutually form brotherly ties through the husband`s this righteous behavior. However, this image is just what is evaluated as an ideal figure in patriarchal ideology. Its actual condition is shown differently. The image of adulterer, who was cancelled a promise of marriage unilaterally, is being evaluated as a figure who fails to be understood and to be moral due to the act of committing adultery. And what is suppressed and forced amid the patriarchal ideology could be known to have been very difficult to be endured even by men as well as women through the image of the husband, who is evaluated as a figure of having excellent personality ethically and morally with sacrificing himself for honor of the family and of being compensated all the behaviors. Also, the meaning in ‘adultery’ and ‘forgiveness,’ which are indicated in the tale titled ‘forgiving adulterous wife and meeting adulterer(姦夫) in mediation,’ was the material for revealing the image of men, who had been suppressed ethically and morally in the middle of patriarchal ideology and is containing a meaning of being positive in all the images of two men. Accordingly, the meaning of righteousness, which is revealed in the tale, will be able to be confirmed through the tale as saying of being contained the image of men, who are forced to practice the ideally moral norm amid the patriarchal ideology, in the hidden side, as well as highly evaluating the image of a man who did excellent behavior ethically and morally.
