Smart cars are expected to rapidly replace existing markets with high growth rates each year; additionally, they are expected to create new markets such as car sharing and smart traffic systems. According to an analysis of the curriculum of the department of automobiles at Korea Polytechnic College, among practical subjects, only 16.6% of major courses, 18.2% of two-year program courses, and 26.7% of expertise course are related to smart cars. Thus, the curriculum needs to be reorganized. Our college is also reorganizing its departments to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution; it is time to make preparations to train smart car professionals, who will be needed by the nation. If we accept the position of being a training institute for smart cars, the college can become a good role model for other places that wish to advance the technical manpower needed in the future, and doing so will contribute to the enhancement of the quality of college education.
