호남 방언과 서사 문체 -사회언어학적 시론 = On the Narrative Stylistic Affections of the Honam-Dialects -A Sociolinguistic Essay

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The narrative dialect is not an element of actuality or locality but an essential element relative to the realization of the theme and narration. Especially the speaker’s socio-cultural backgrounds and politico-economic conditions may influence on the aspects of narrative dialect.
In the cases of Jo, Jeongrae’s TaebaeksanmaeK(Taebaek Mountains) or Choi, Myeonghee's Honbul (Soul Light), Honam dialects are adopted as the key features of narrative strategies not as a simple device of actuality. The dialect expressions are related to the creations of character shapes and compose the thematic ideologies. Besides they constitute dynamic narrative-situations and make cultural discourses.
Authors may use common language or standard language to compose a fictional narrative. But they have to choose dialect discourses in various situations. Diverse aspects of narrative dialects are the results of the implied-author’s language attitudes to dialect in some pragmatic conditions. Implied-author can control the dynamics in character featuring and narrative-situations. Style effects are produced in this narrative creative process. Han, Seungwon's Heuksando Haneul Gil (The Road-to-Heaven in Heuksan Islands) is an outstanding instance.
Dialect representations could not be presented in the fictional context of conversation of the native dialect speakers. Actual author may not represent the actual conversation situation hut make up the fictional discourse condition. Some Lee, Cheongjun’s novels are the examples. Using the common language as narrative discourse, the author can help the reader's understanding of narrative. The narrative style, as it were, affects the dynamic reading mechanism.
The phases of narrative dialects can be precisely interpreted in diversified reasoning of the stylistic affections of them. Socio-cultural and politico-economic conditions or pragmatic situations of speaker have to be analyzed for a dose inquiry into the dynamic essence of the narrative style.
